Rating: ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Ages: 3 – 6 years

This is another one of those bedtime books that I secretly jump for joy when the kids choose it ….

Why?

Because it makes bedtime just that little bit easier!

It’s not laugh-out-loud funny and it’s not a particularly adventurous read …. so the kids remains calm and still while I’m reading it!

It’s EXACTLY what is needed in a bed-time book, with an added bonus of being incredibly sweet.

The words and illustrations are soothing, yet entertaining enough to be engaging.  By the end of the book, both kids are calm and ready to settle down.

If Animals Kissed Good Night is possibly one of the cutest books I have ever read for younger readers and is a great addition to the bed-time routine.

The front cover is a giveaway as to how cute this book is! Beginning with a child being tucked into bed by her mother, surrounded by stuffed toys, the words read ….

‘’If animals kissed like we kissed good night….’’

We are treated to a sloth and her cub, Peacock and chick and Mama Python and her hatchling …. all kissing goodnight in their own special way.

Mama Elephant is particularly cute as her ‘’trunk would kiss and then sway, and shower her calf with a wet, washing sprayl’’

Little wolves, bears and monkeys also have a go at kissing their mom or dad goodnight.

My personal favorite is the penguins.  They are just so darn cute!

‘’Mama Penguin and chick would stumble and slide, on slippery rocks in a hug-and-kiss ride.’’

Towards the end of the book, we find ourselves back in the little girl’s room, except this time she is asleep.

The final page circles us back around to the sloth at the beginning of the book.  They are STILL kissing sloooowwwwwww.

Ann Whitford Paul and David Walker have teamed up on this adorable animal series that also includes, ”If Animals Said I Love You”. Everything about these books are gentle and just perfect for bed-time reading.

If Animals Kissed Good Night is a great go-to book for younger readers at bed time and naps.  Guaranteed to make bed time just that little bit easier!

    • Hi Joyce. Thanks for reaching out. I always include a recommended age at the top of my reviews/blogs. If Animals Kissed Good Night is great for 3 – 4 years old as it’s a cute, bedtime picture book but a 10-year-old would be more interested in a chapter book. If you let me know whether your great-grandies are boys or girls I could suggest something specific for you?
