I didn’t think Little Blue Truck could get any better. But it did ….
This one has lift-the-flaps!
‘’Mum, can I go first?’’
‘’Mum, is it my turn to life the flaps?’’
Ok, so we have to work on taking turns when we read it, but the kids are pretty excited about reading this book …
And I’m pretty excited that they’re excited about a book.
In the same rhythmic rhyming and wonderful illustrations as the others, Little Blue Truck’s Halloween is a welcome edition to the Little Blue Truck series.
‘’Little Blue Truck and his good friend Toad
Are going to a party just down the road.’’
Little Blue picks up the other farm animals on the way to the party. Except, all of the animals are in costume!
‘’Under the mask who do you see’’ (This is where the lift-the-flaps come in.)
‘’Quack! says the duck. It’s me! It’s me!’’
Little Blue Truck picks up the sheep, dressed as a clown, and he picks up the cow, dressed as a queen.
The pig is dressed as a witch and the hen is dressed as a pirate. The horse is even dressed as a dragon!
Except, there’s just one more …. ‘’Has anyone seen this ghost before?’’
Rather than a lift the flap, this page lifts out to a three-page fold-out, showing Little Blue Truck dressed as a ghost.
Alice Schertle is a poet and author of many well-loved books for children. Her rhythmic, rolling style in this book makes the Little Blue Truck series an easy read to engage children.
Illustrator Jill McElmurry captured this book just perfectly, featuring a sense of nostalgia that befits Little Blue’s own look. Unfortunately, Jill passed away in 2017.
In the same rhythmic rhyming and wonderful illustrations as the others, Little Blue Truck’s Halloween is a welcome addition to the Little Blue Truck series.
