Children are constantly curious, but mine take the ‘’why’’ questions to a whole new level!

Some of the questions that my son has asked recently include:

“Why does my donut have a hole in the middle and yours doesn’t?”

“Why does my skin get wrinkly in the bath?” (Followed by ‘’Grandma is already a bit wrinkly. Did she have lots of baths when she was little?’’)

With thanks to his fascination with Spiderman, my personal favorite …

‘’Why don’t spiders stick to their webs?’’

National Geographic’s Little Kids First Big Book of Why answers most of these questions …. AND MORE!

Little Kids First Big Book of Why is a fascinating book giving accurate and age-level appropriate answers by National Geographic.  It’s basically an essential parent reference for when your child goes through the ‘’Why’’ stage!

The book has four main sections of Amazing Me, How Things Work, Animals All Around and Wonders of the World. Each question has a double spread dedicated to its answer.

The pictures are clear and age-appropriate and the text is straightforward. There are often suggestions of experiments included to help reinforce the answer.

Although there are many more questions answered, examples include:

  • Why are people different colors?
  • Why do I have to eat vegetables?
  • Why do I have dreams and nightmares?
  • Why do balloons float?
  • Why are dinosaur bones still around?
  • Why can’t fish breath air?
  • Why can’t we talk to animals?
  • Why is snow white?
  • Why don’t islands sink?

Out of these nine questions, my son has asked seven of them in the past few months!

An essential parent reference for the ‘’Why’’ stage that all kids go through, National Geographic’s Little Kids First Big Book of Why is a fascinating resource giving accurate and age-level appropriate answers.
