My mother-in-law dropped in a few weeks ago and announced she was cleaning up. Unfortunately, she didn’t mean my house…
She was cleaning out some old boxes stored in her shed and came across a bible that was given to her son (my husband) when he was baptized in the year 1980.
The bible is beautifully preserved, still in its original yellow gift box with no water or rodent damage, despite living in a shed for the last two decades.
But it’s the kind of bible only an adult would appreciate. Our son took one look at it, pointed out there was no pictures and announced it looked old.
However, he did love the age-appropriate 10 Commandments book by Jimmy Lyn!
The 10 Commandments – Living a Life of Virtue is one of the best ways to introduce young children to the importance of God’s Ten Commandments.
Each commandment is placed into a simple sentence that a child would understand, with the original wording written in smaller letters underneath.
‘’Speak politely to everyone, and do not use God’s name as a bad word,’’ is the children’s interpretation for, ‘’You shall not take the name of the Lord your God in vain.
‘’Do not hurt others with your words or actions. Be friendly and play nice with everyone,’’ is the child-friendly commandment for, ‘’You shall not murder.’’
I just love how this book gives you the opportunity to teach the commandment in a way that your child will actually understand.
Jimmy Lynn does an amazing job at interpreting bible teachings into words that young children can not only understand, but enjoy reading.
Illustrator Deborah Valentino just perfects these messages with joyful illustrations that both children and adults will enjoy.
Written in a manner that’s easily understood by children, The 10 Commandments – Living a Life of Virtue is one of the best ways to introduce young children to the importance of God’s Ten Commandments.
